This at least partly due to their pain coping strategy catastrophizing [1]. In chronic disease such as JIA, the quality with is crucial. The importance well recognized children [2]. understanding parental role supporting child growing [3]; yet measuring precise mechanism less studied. Thus, it seems important measure also quality. Objectives aim this study was develop scale (PCSpar) for assessing parents’ strategies child´s and shorter improved PCSped feasible use practice. Methods original questionnaire (PCQ) [4] has been validated Finnish [5] resulting 38-item, eight-factor structured PCQ. items new version PCQ were reduced into twenty by an interdisciplinary team (mPCQped). A corresponding created (mPCQpar). Consecutive aged 8-16 years, visiting pediatric rheumatology outpatient clinic, reporting musculoskeletal during last week before visit or longer, recruited participate study. Both patient caregiver rated child’s VAS from 0 100, completed mPCQped /the mPCQpar Children´s Depression Inventory (CDI) [6]/the Beck´s depression (BDI) [7] appropriate. selection process performed factor analyses. construct validity, associations mPCQ factors, CDI, BDI VAS, tested Spearman´s correlation coefficient. Results conducted all five tertiary four secondary hospitals evenly distributed throughout Finland. Of 153 families invited study, 130 attended. average (SD) age attending 13.0 (2.3) years. patients, 91 (70%) girls. Several steps exploratory analyses preceded final results. factors retained Coping Scale (iPCSped) named positive cognitive distraction, (CATped), seeking social support (SSSped) behavioral distraction. caregivers (iPCSpar) self-statement, (CATpar), both iPCSped iPCSpar there are total 15 items, 2-5 items/factor. factor´s Cronbach´s alpha reliability coefficients satisfactory, goodness-of-fit statistics good. CATpar correlated Rs= 0.33, p<0.05 parent’s assessment 0.23, caregivers. CATped CDI 0.49, SSSped 0.26, p=0.05 but not 0.08, p>0.05. Conclusion we novel (iPCSpar). showed good validity reliability.
